Glendale Gets Smart Grid Grant

The City of Glendale's utility, Glendale Water & Power reported today that it is the first city in the nation to get funding from the U.S. Tags: glendale cleantech energy smart grid utility Department of Energy for its smart grid efforts. The city said it has signed a $20M, federal Smart Grid Investment Grant under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which will go towards a demonstration to install smart grid meters in the city.

A new startup incubator and coworking space in the Los Angeles area-- Voivoda Labs --said this week that it is looking to looking to vet new startups in the area to join its newly built incubator in Glendale. Voivoda Labs--headed by Val Babajov, the former CEO of WebMessenger--said it is looking to vet around 15 startups via a pitch event later this month, to help secure investment for the winner.

Report: Waze Turns Echo Park Street Into A Nightmare

Glendale-based software developer ServiceTitan , which develops workflow and field service management for home service businesses, announced Friday morning that it has raised $62M in a Series C funding. The funding was led by Battery Ventures, and also included Bessemer Venture Partners and ICONIQ Capital. The company, founded by Ara Mahdessian and Vahe Kuzoyan, said that Battery's Michael Brown joins the company's board with the funding.

Everbridge Raises $90M In IPO, Sees Pop On Market Debut

Report: Disney Eyes Twitter Buy

A report this morning from the WSJ says that Glendale-based DreamWorks Animation SKG and Comcast are in talks, where Comcast will pay more than $3 billion for DreamWorks. Glendale-based ClimateMinder , one of the companies out of the VoiVoda Ventures incubator in Glendale, has been acquired by Rainbird Corp. according to VoiVoda. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. ClimateMinder developed wireless irrigation monitoring and control products, which were being applied to the agriculture industry. The company's clients had included Monsanto, Driscoll, and Bolthouse farms.

Gamblit Gaming Gets $12M For Gambling Software

Glendale-based Avery Dennison announced this morning that it has acquired Finesse Medical Ltd. , an Irish company which develops products use for wound care and skin condition management. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. Finesse Medical is based in Longford, Ireland. The company develops silicone gels and polyurethane foam dressings used for wound care. Glendale-based startup incubator, accelerator, and investment fund VoiVoda is one of the investors in mobile optimization firm Leanplum , Leanplum said today. VoiVoda Labs is a Glendale-based startup accelerator, incubator, and co-working space which also has operations in San Francisco. Leanplum announced it raised $825,000 in an angel funding round, which came from TechStars, Kima Ventures, VoiVoda Ventures, and other angels.
