I've had several Startup CTO Consulting sessions recently where it became apparent that the Founder needed help with the business and product as much or more than the technology. Then we discussed how they could go about finding this startup business advisor. Do you have any suggestions for how to find a good mentor?

Crilly had most recently been the CTO of RYSE UP, a startup in Los Angeles which calls itself the "American Idol for Mobile", which e co-founded with Nathan Chandra. He previously was the co-founder of NearWoo (previously known as PageWoo), a Santa Monica startup developer of mobile advertising software for local businesses.

All too often, those ads disappear into a maze of middlemen, and advertisers don''t really know who is seeing their ads, and why. We decided to build technology to specifically address this problem.

The program is basically to take entrepreneurs, pair them with a mentor who is also an entrepreneur themselves, either a CEO or a CTO. It's structured so that they get funding, office space, all of the Internet resources, tools they need from mentors. There might be one or two mentors, one might be a CTO, another, a CEO.

Another major hire was Ryan Lissack who joined as CTO. And we are unbelievably proud to see the company grow from small, crappy offices above a taco shop in Venice to a production home in Culver City with 70,000 square feet and more than 50,000 individual content contributors. Danny and Ynon in a way will switch roles.
