Initially as a systems designer and programmer and post MBA as a strategy consultant. I could easily go into the board rooms of major European companies (I was based in London) and land $500k – $1 million contracts so my order book grew rapidly. Some companies / products are designed for large organizations from day 1.

What I want to answer with this post (long though it may be) is: Why did Web 2.0 Social Networking in Web 2.0. MySpace was: scantily dressed, teenaged, middle-America, design chaos and on ad steroids. emerge and are there any lessons to be gained about the future? cheap accessible digital hardware].

As an example of how dumb they were (for those that don’t remember) whenever you changed one field in a browser-designed program the entire screen had to refresh. But for software developers like my company the web was a blessing. It was a terrible user experience.

Don Patterson: It took a long time to converge on what we were actually doing, and we started on a path of developing stuff, working with interaction designers, and forcing ourselves to identify what service we were really trying to provide. The idea is we do not want to go down the current path of the Web 2.0
