I was asked by a reader how much equity he should give out to early employees and to service providers in a very early stage startup. I'll get to service providers in a later post. Founders are likely not paid for a long time and have a sizeable equity percentage for early risk and having the concept.

I talk to roughly 2 or 3 new startups every week who need advice from an experienced CTO. Generally I can provide quite a bit of help in that brief time. Of course, I provide part-time CTO services. So, I wanted to use this post to make it official - we are offering free startup CTO consulting sessions.

Los Angeles-based online car rental service HyreCar has just raised $1.465M in debt funding, as part of an ongoing $2.3M According to those filings, the funding comes on top of $1.65M in equity raised in a round which opened in June of 2017. HyreCar's CEO is Joe Furnani, and its CTO is Abhi Arora.

The company--which is in the business of operating a content delivery network (CDN) to accelerate the delivery of web graphics, multimedia, applications, and more to end users-- recently disclosed it more than doubled its revenues in 2012, and has grown to over 230 employees--all due to a huge amount of demand for CDN services by its customers.

This is part of my Startup Advice series. I had a picture in the office of my first company with the logo above and the capital letters JFDI. (In You’re sales person is getting blocked by the CTO who says she shouldn’t go above him but the CTO isn’t approving the deal. He was stuck on capital raising.
