They started their company in LA but a couple of years after raising capital from Khosla Ventures in the Bay Area they ended up relocating there. Local capital matters. I think government and community members need to understand that capital formation is an incredibly important part of economic revival. Local mentors matter.

Investors are buying your business, not your product. As they say, you only get one chance to make a great first impression, so don’t pitch to a key angel group or venture capital team for practice. According to the Angel Capital Association (ACA), only about a third of its member groups charge any fee, and in all cases less than $500.
