Quality of Events Of course, the bigger issue with events is finding the ones where you will have a really good opportunity to network with interesting people. This is why I say that Local Event Organizers Need to Adopt Social Media. I guess I should confess that I used to go to a lot more networking events.

My background was 8 years of telecoms & mobile and 8 years of cloud computing & SaaS – so these two themes were a given. Digital Media was an obvious theme because it’s one in which LA (where I’m based) and NY (where I spend a lot of time) have strong assets, companies and management teams.

Cloud computing and the open source movements have brought down the costs of starting a company by more than 90%. And of course the funding problem coincided with the stock market correction that took away most exit options for years to come. So of course returns from 2000-2010 were subpar on average for the industry.
