The campaign was so successful it eventually catapulted 7-Up’s sales to rival that of both Coke and Pepsi, making it the third most popular soft drink in the US. For example, if they own 15% of the company in a Series A round, then they will only invest an amount in the Series B round such that their overall investment remains 15%.

What we learned, is there is so much more demand from existing retailers and platforms that sell directly to consumers, and discovery platforms like Foursquare, who wanted to user our IP as a layer, versus a standalone product. Three years later, there's no looking back, and we've now raised around $2M in total funding.

A similar experience occurred at a cloud computing company where I acted as an addVisor. The startup was so nascent that the sale would have been considered a short-term gain for tax purposes, which would have significantly reduced the Founders’ proceeds, making their small fortune even smaller. Approximate valuation upon exit.
