I see that model changing today to one of team collaboration and decision making, per companies such as Amazon, Google, and Zoom. Discourage internal team competition and silos. You need to be a mentor and coach on a regular basis, rather than follow a formal appraisal process that everyone dreads.

This morning’s show took on the topic of “teams” and highlighted research that Julia Rozovsky and Google has conducted called Project Aristotle and profiled in Charles Duhigg’s book Smarter, Faster, Better. The best leaders I know encourage coaches to come in and are willing to listen to feedback about themselves.

He forwarded an annoyed email to my main contact at Salesforce. It’s easier when you have traction and a competitive process for your funding is likely. I often coach that this period is often when you can engender great confidence from the partner. What competitive products did they consider? What did he do?

If you look at why Google is so successful today, the overwhelming majority of their revenue is from sponsored search. Google out-executed us, so, you know, hats off and theyve been victorious, but a lot of that kind of innovation happens in L.A. Google acquired that and incorporated it. Okay, thats AdSense.
