We're looking for inventors interested in commercializing and spinning out their technology into a company. Universities have a bunch of companies on either side that have done that. If an existing company is not interested in licensing, and a researcher is not an entrepreneurial spirit, those projects go no where.

Bill Gross founded Idealab in March 1996 and serves as the company’s Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. A lifelong entrepreneur, Bill started several companies prior to Idealab. In college at the California Institute of Technology, he patented a new loudspeaker design and formed GNP Loudspeakers, Inc.
