A couple of weeks ago, a brand new, startup incubator launched in town--with a slightly different focus, on biomedical technology. The incubator-- Greenwings Biomedical (www.greenwingsbiomedical.com), is led by Richard Koffler , a serial entrepreneur and angel investor in Los Angeles. What is Greenwings Biomedical? It was a failure.

Pasadena-based X1 Discovery , which develops e-discovery and search software for the legal industry, has named Craig Carpenter as its new CEO, according to the company. Carpenter--who also is an attorney--had been a quarterback for UCLA. READ MORE>>.

Santa Monica-based Clearstone Ventures has had another exit in its portfolio, this time with the acquisition of Cetas , a developer of cloud data analytics software, by VMware. Cetas was incubated in Clearstone's Palo Alto offices by Sudhakar Muddu, a Ph.D. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. READ MORE>>.

MyLife's new building is in the same building as incubator Elevator Labs, compliance software and services firm LRN, and is the same building which was the headquarters for PeopleSupport. Healthtech entrepreneur Parker Hinshaw and his wife Jean Balgrosky said they intended to take a step back when they founded Bootstrap Incubation near San Diego in the fall of 2012. Just a few months earlier, Hinshaw had sold his private healthcare IT consulting company, MaxIT Healthcare, to government contractor SAIC for $473 million.
