A new, Pasadena-based startup out of Idealab , the startup incubator headed by Bill Gross, is hoping to bring 3D printing to the masses for $149. According to New Matter , it is hoping to bring its 3D printer to users, starting at only $149, in an attempt to make 3D printing accessible to everyone.

And costume & set designers. In LA companies used to be concentrated near Pasadena or in the San Fernando Valley. So we’ve seen an explosion in the number of startup companies and subsequently a huge burst in the number of incubators. It’s becoming harder to distinguish tech companies from media companies. And writers!

And while they historically had come up with 100% of their ideas and created the companies themselves, they are increasingly open to funding people with great ideas who want to build businesses with IdeaLab provided the companies will stay be in LA (and preferably Pasadena). They are very hands on. I think this makes no sense.

Pasadena may be the best tech story never told. Somehow the home of IdeaLab, OpenX, CalTech, Art Center College of Design, and JPL doesn’t have much of a reputation as a innovation hub. Still, Pasadena never hits anyone’s radar as a hot tech destination. The City of Pasadena has given great support.
