Presentation slides serve two primary purposes. One is to support a live presentation in which each slide is annotated verbally. For instance, I might show a logo of Computer Motion, GoToMeeting, Citrix, UC Santa Barbara and Rincon Venture Partners on my first slide as a means of depicting my past and current professional affiliations.

These varied responsibilities are analogous to those of a startup CEO, as movie production crews are essentially temporary ventures. I recently had a chance to observe an intimate conversation between Leonard Maltin and Ben Affleck at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, where Mr. Affleck was honored with the festival's "Modern Master" award.

Santa Barbara-based SendMeHome (www.sendmehome.com) is looking to solve that problem, with a free service to print out labels which attach to your item, and where you can register items in case they are lost. So I thought of some ideas about getting the phone back if the battery wasn't present. How do you get those items back?

Myself, I am now working with a medical ultrasound technology firm, working directly with the researcher and a design firm. Ultimately, once those issues are validated, it's how to go about building the product, recruiting talent, and enough capital to make it into a business. Last week, John and I met with Dina Lozofsky, now at U.C.
