San Diego-based marketing software developer SOCi annoucned on Thursday that it has acquired Brandify, a provider of location-based digital marketing. Financial terms of the deal were not announced. According to SOCi, the deal will add additional functionality to its platform. SOCi is led by CEO Afif Khoury, and is backed by JMI Equity. The company recently raised $80 From JMI Equity.

Rocket Lab Successfully Launches Military Satellite

Long Beach-based Rocket Lab has successfully launched a military satellite back into space, on a quick recovery from a failed mission in May. The launch--for the U.S. Space Force--launched at 6pm NZ time from New Zealand. The satellite, called "Monolith", is an experiment designed to see if a large, deployable sensor which is a "substantial fraction of the total mass of the spacecraft" can be used to maintain spacecraft attitude control.

Headspace Names New CTO

Santa Monica-based mindfulness and meditation app developer Headspace said on Wednesday thati thas named Krithika Swaminathan as its new Chief Technology Officer. Swaminathan was most recently Vice President for Artificial Intelligence at Intuit. She also previously served as Vice President of Platform Engineering for the Consumer Group (TurboTax, Turbo, Mint), and Vice President for Site Reliability, Security and Quality Engineering for Intuit Platform.

The funding came from Smilegate, a South Korean gaming company knokwn for the title "CROSSFIRE". The funding came from Microsoft's venture capital fund, M12, as well as Qualcomm Ventures, Hitachi Ventures, the corporate venture arm of Hitachi, Ltd., and prior investors Point 72, Upfront, and Embark.
