Westlake Village BioPartners, Led By Amgen Vets, Launches $320M Fund

Westlake Village BioPartners , a brand new venture capital fund focused on the life sciences, said on Wednesday that it has launched a new, $320 investment fund aimed at early stage companies. The firm said Harper will move to the firm beginning in January 2019, with current Kleiner Perkins Chief Operating Officer Scott Ryles becoming Chief Operating Officer at Westlake Village BioPartners.

CoverHound , which has offices in Westlake Village, and is also one of the portfolio firms of Los Angeles-based venture investor Core Innovation Capital , has raised $33.3M CoverHound is based in San Francisco, but said in March that it would be growing its operations in Westlake Village thanks to its Series B funding. The company now lists positions for Insurance Advisors, an Engineering Manager, and a Ruby-on-Rails Engineer in Westlake.

CoverHound , the online insurance shopping marketplace with offices in Westlake Village, has raised $55M more in a funding round, the company said this morning. Coverhound's offices are split between San Francisco and Westlake Village. The funding was led by Hiscox, and also included Chubb, Aflac Ventures, and MS&AD. The company says it has now raised $110M in total. Coverhound is led by CEO Keith Moore.

Report: IPOs On Track For Best Year Since 2007, But Only One Q3 Area Tech IPO

However, local numbers show only one technology related IPO in the local market-- Sienna Biopharmaceuticals in Westlake Village. The only local IPOs identified in Q3 in the report were YogaWorks in Culver City, RBB Bancorp in Los Angeles, and Sienna Biopharmaceuticals in Westlake Village. A new report today, issued by E&Y, says that the global IPO market is on track to be the best year since 2007.

Independent Technology Group Acquired By InterVision Systems

InterVision is owned by private equity investor Huron Capital. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. According to Blue, the new USB microphone is specifically designed for broadcast-quality podcasting, YouTube productions, game streaming, Skype/VoIP calls and voiceover work. Peterson was most recent at Novan, where he also served as Chief Financial Officer, and also has served as CFO and Treasurer at Medicis Pharmaceutical Corporation, in addition to serving as an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Sienna says that Peterson will take over from John Smither, who is retiring, but will remain as an advisor.
