Irvine-based Cie Digital Labs is announcing this morning that Brad Martin, the former Chairman and CEO of Saks Inc., will join the company as an Executive in Residence. According to Cie Digital, Martin is currently Chairman of Chesapeake Energy, Chairman of RBM Ventures, and Retired Chairman and CEO of Saks Incorporated. Cie Digital recently has focused in becoming a technology "startup studio", after being acquired by technology investor Anderee Berengian.

Slingshot Aerospace Raises $3.25M

Los Angeles- and Austin, Texas-based Slingshot Aerospace has raised $3.25M in its Series Seed round, according to lead investor ATX Seed Ventures. The round also included investments from Okapi Venture Capital and Sway Ventures, along with Stage and NoName Ventures. The company, which was part of the recent Techstars Los Angeles class, uses artificial intelligence software to process imagery data.

Los Angeles-based rocket developer Rocket Lab said late last night that it has scrubbed its launch for today, while its team reviews data. Rocket Lab had been planning a launch--which it has nicknamed "Still Testing"--which it has been hoping to launch from its site in New Zealand. Rocket Lab's "Electron" rocket is being designed for launching small satellites into space.

SpaceX Shifts Launch Target To Wednesday

Hawthorne-based SpaceX says it is now planning to launch its next mission to the International Space Station, CRS-13, on Wednesday morning. The launch will be the first re-use of a Falcon 9 rocket and a Dragon spacecraft for a NASA flight.
