DroneBase Adds Solar Power Plant Assessment

Santa Monica-based DroneBase, a provider of aerial imaging, says it is launching a specific product that rates the status of solar plant assets. According to the company, it has rolled out a new "Solar Scan" system which provides a three-letter asset rating system to solar assets. The company said that its surveys use aerial photography and thermal scans to provide a three-letter asset rating to solar site condition, by assessing power loss, module condition and cell temperature.

Long Beach-based Rocket Lab successfully launched its 30th mission, and delivered its 150th satellite to space on Thursday. The company's latest mission, "The Owl Spreads Its Wings", was a dedicated mission for Synspective, a Japanese company developing Earth observation satelites. The company said it successfully launched one of its Electron rockets at 20:38 UTC, September 15, 2022, deploying a single spacecraft, the StriX-1 satellite, to a 563km circular Earth orbit.

MSBAI Gets STTR Contract From Space Force

Los Angeles-based space simulation software developer MSBAI, which was part of the Air Force Techstars 2020 program, says it has been awarded a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase 1 contract from the US Space Force, along with its partners Georgia Tech and the University of Central Florida. According to MSBAI, the contract will go to adapt its simulation software for In-space Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing (ISAM) missions.

HopSkipDrive Gets $37M In Series D

Los Angeles-based HopSkipDrive, which provides school transportation using private vehicles operated by screened caregivers, said on Tuesday that it has raised $37M in a Series D funding. The funding came from Energy Impact Partners, Keyframe Capital, FirstMark Capital, Alumni Ventures, Transform Capital and others. The company said it will use the funding for expansion of its school transportation efforts across the country. HopSkipDrive is led by co-founder and CEo Joanna McFarland.

Morpheus Space Finds $28M In Series A

Los Angeles-based Morpheus Space, which is developing space propulsion technology, says it has raised $28M in a Series A funding round. The funding was led by Alpine Space Ventures, and also included Morpheus Ventures, Vsquared Ventures, Lavrock Ventures, Airbus Ventures, In-Q-Tel, Pallas Ventures, and Techstars Ventures. The company said the new funding will towards a manufacturing and a factory in Dresden, Germany. Morpheus Space is led by CEO and co-founder Daniel Bock.

According to Grindr, it has named George Arison as CEO, who was the former co-founder and CEO of auto e-commerce marketplace Shift Technologies, which had its own SPAC in June of 2020.
