Although UCSB has room to grow with regard to the total number of VC-backed startups it generates, the Santa Barbara region fares well when its relative size is taken into account. Despite the fact that I teach entrepreneurship at UC Santa Barbara , I do not believe that entrepreneurs are created in classrooms. I treat each of my classes as a product that the students are paying a lot of money to consume. A version of this article previously appeared in Forbes.
