Los Angeles-based Jurny, a developer of software used by independent hotels and vacation and short-term rental property operators for property and guest management, has raised $9.5M The funding was led by Mucker Capital. According to the company, the funding will go towards global expansion of its product, Jurny Virtual.

In the first post in this three part series I described why I believe the VC market froze between September 2008 – April 2009. So we loaded up on flat screen TVs, multiple generations of iPods and trips to Hawaii. If the stock market holds then the pace of VC may hold steady. So why the ’09 bounce?

Your product demo crushed. You race back to the office to tell everybody how well it went and you wait for the follow-up call to have a partners’ meeting or talk about term sheets or at least dip into due diligence. But the real product being bought or sold is “trust.” You had an amazing meeting with an investor.

Either it’s a bunch of pictures or screen shots or it’s a bunch of words. If you are outside internet software we are not going to invest. This time frame – 2005/2006 – web 2.0

Kind of like a law firm (or VC firm) with four partners but shortened to just two, people dropped off his second two words. The power of large screen real estate. But on the other hand if you have a product with a very high gross margin (software, virtual goods, etc.) I believe in integrated products.
