Launchpad LA , the Los Angeles startup accelerator program which is run by Sam Teller, and was founded by venture capitalist Mark Suster, is gearing up for another class, to start next month. The deadline for applying for the next class , which runs from March through July, is February 17th.

Pasadena-based online dating site eHarmony has settled a class action lawsuit over its lack of support for gay, lesbian, and bisexual individuals, the firm reported Tuesday evening. The firm later launched Compatible Partners , a same-sex matching service, in March of 2009, on pressure from the State of New Jersey. eHarmony, Inc.,

This is class four for Launchpad LA. Divshot, a tool for web designers and developers, won a national pitch competition and one of it’s founders Michael Bleigh created a popular open source library now included in Ruby on Rails. We’ve been blown away by the performance of the eight companies in this class.

But I’ll judge the angel class of 2009/2010 on a 7-10 year time horizon. Most of my MBA classes were a waste (since I had studied economics as an undergrad) but one totally changed my thinking. It was an investment management class. in 2009 the market was completely constipated as investors focused on triage.

1) Mobile web. Mobile app downloads went from 300mm in 2009 to 5 billion in 2010, Android ad impressions up over 2,000% as two examples. The current incarnation of the mobile web changes what the Internet IS to users, and the manner in which it is incorporated into their lives. (2) I'll list three, not necessarily in order. (1)

It was a great chance for the class to interact with the community in LA. Lee Essner is formerly a senior exec from WeddingChannel and has much experience in running a successful web property. They build web solutions for venues and give them to the venues for free in exchange for keeping their ticket service fees.

In my previous post, The VC Ice Age is Thawing (for now) I wrote about the reasons why the VC market came to a screeching halt in September 2008 and remained largely shut until at least April 2009. As of near the end of September 2009, we’re up 46% since the March 9th nadir (yes, I need to find a way to use one of my SAT words ; – ).
