Yammer , the business focused micromessaging service which started as an offspring of Los Angeles-based family tree and genealogy site Geni , is reportedly in the last legs of a deal to be acquired by Microsoft for more than $1 billion. According to Bloomberg and other sources, the deal is expected to be announced as early as Friday.

Microsoft in late June announced to have acquired social network for enterprises Yammer at $ 1.2 According to the Jared Spataro Senior Director, Office Division, Microsoft in a blog post the firm had met all the requirements regarding the acquisition. Yammer was launched in 2008 and raised $142 million then.

We are actually getting paid now to obtain customers, so our customer acquisition costs are now negative. A negative customer acquisition cost!

RedBeacon was the 3rd winner (year 1: Yammer, year 2: Mint.com) – not bad company. RedBeacon went on to sell to HomeDepot in what was considered a very successful acquisition on all sides. But Ethan had left by the time of the acquisition. In the same year they won Business Insider’s Startup competition. Nice sweep!
