I recently had the pleasure of spending an hour with Jon Steinberg, president of Buzzfeed , a company who focuses on helping media companies make their content go viral. That’s why people turn up to Buzzfeed. Good comment community = viral blog. When it’s personal, it gets shared a lot. How very meta of me, hey?
When I first started writing this blog several years ago I had less followers than you have right now. But the realist in me knew I couldn’t write daily nor could I convince you to think to check out my blog with regularity. .” From this I learned the best times to post and how frequently to Tweet a blog post.
Usually I tell them to study Upworthy & Buzzfeed. When they get your email they earn the right to share more videos with you in the future and they already know something about your interests. And if they can’t get you to give up your email address they will encourage you to share the video on Facebook or Twitter.
Facebook started with the biggest publishers in the game: BuzzFeed , Huffington Post , New York Times , Washington Post. BuzzFeed has seen their Instant Articles engage more people than any of their standard link posts and Gawker ’s founder tweeted that instant articles boosted daily uniques to their website.
It will be a follow on from my “App is Crap” or “Web Second, Mobile First” blog posts but in short, video, updated, digestible formats. It has Vice, Tastemade, Vox, ESPN, Comedy Central, BuzzFeed and more. I have met people on Snapchat and moved the conversation to email and even phone.
