The NSF determined eight to ten years ago that the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants they were funding to academic teams, to commercialize technology, they were losing, because not many academics had the background to understand how to go out and source customers, and did not know how to run a startup.

What they do, is accelerate that team or company to get them to the next level, and then go through and put in some investment money, help them build out the management team, and help with vendor relationships, help with overall strategy, and then help those companies riase their next round of capital. We actually are ideating internally.

That's funding our new product, FanMix, which is a a social media tool. We have some great mentors now. Thanks to TechStars, we've got an awesome mentor who's co-habitating with us now, and we're learning something daily from him. I was really into graphic design in high school, and took several summer workshops at Caltech.
