In this three-part series I will explore the ways that the Venture Capital industry has changed over the past 5 years that I would argue are a direct result of changes in the software industry, not the other way around. So it’s unsurprising that typical “A rounds&# of venture capital were $5-10 million.
According to the company, the second round of funding came from S3 Ventures, Performance Edge Partners and Zeitgeist Capital. The company also said it has appointed Phil Myers as Executive Chairman--Myers was previously CEO of StoredIQ (also backed by S3), and also served at Cyclone Commerce, SalesLogix, and other firms.
The round was led by S3 Ventures, and also included Mark Cuban and Tim Headington. S3's Brian R. Irvine-based BlueCava , a developer of device identification technology used for both online advertising tracking, as well as fraud prevention, said Tuesday that it has raised $9.5M in a funding round.

Nirvanix had last raised funding in May of 2012, when it took $25M in funding from such backers as Khosla Ventures, Valhalla Partners, Intel Capital, Mission Ventures and Windward Ventures. Nirvanix had started life as a competitor to Amazon S3, but in recent years had shifted its focus to supplying cloud storage to enterprises.

The firm charges by bandwidth and amount of storage, and competes against Amazon's S3 service.
