That’s convenience when your VC is hoping to write the next $20 million check. Douglas Merrill, the former CIO of Google, is building his next company, ZestCash in LA. Many of the Valley tech firms saw advertising as “beneath them&# and many VCs in the first boom encouraged people to focus on eyeballs rather than dollars.

My CIO had been ex-CIO at Herbalife, and was an EVP of Software for Disney. I don't know if you've read my book, but I started my career writing trading systems in a software company. I've been basically writing code, and looking at trading systems and investment criteria for a long time.

Forcing yourself to write down a plan is actually the only way to make sure you actually have a plan. A CEO who has “been there and done that” is traction, especially if teamed with a financial lead (CIO) and a product lead (CTO). If you have a product description, that’s necessary, but not sufficient. Build qualified advisory board.

We found that software wasn't being bought by the team members and product leaders who needed it, but was being bought by CIOs in large corporations. Everyone wants to read a PDF, but few want to write or change them. There was a disconnect between the product and the sales process. A good comparison of the software is to a PDF reader.
