StartEngine , the startup accelerator headed by Howard Marks, is launching its newest class of startups today in a private event in Santa Monica. StartEngine provides $20,000 to $100,000 in funding to promising startups, and also offers up mentoring, office space, and help in getting those startups to the next stage.

Anna Barber: Before this, I hadn't been involved with Techstars as a mentor, however, I'd been an entrepreneur and mentored at other accelerators. In 1999, I moved out to San Francisco to join the tech scene there, and worked at a couple of e-commerce companies in product roles. How did you get involved with Techstars?
The realm of an entrepreneur is all about change, but in my experience as a mentor to business founders, I hear too much about incremental change, and not enough about revolutionary change. Whenever you have a great idea, ask yourself why it couldn’t be made 10 times bigger, or even 100 times. Achieving the impossible is within reach.
From there, I became the first non-founder employee at an e-commerce startup called BITSource, which was the first electronic software distributor delivering electronic volume software licenses to corporations. That's where I learned I enjoyed interacting with customers and working with development teams to build and launch products.
