Burstly, a Santa Monica based company, provides an open and free ad management platform that helps mobile application developers better monetize their inventory. As I naturally get asked all the time why we invested in Company A or Company B, I thought I’d just put forth my thesis in writing.

Today they say its Africa’s largest and fastest growing social networking utility with over 4,000 daily new sign-ups. They also add that LAGbook ranks #2 in the city of Yaba-Lagos, where the social network was incepted, and #37 in the city of Hirtshal, Denmark. We create a social network for students of the University of Lagos.

” in 2014 the data seems pretty conclusive because LA has now become the fastest growing tech startup region by numbers of companies being started and those of us here have noticed this pace accelerating. Both are massively funding other LA tech companies through what Fred Wilson once defined as “recycled capital.”

For a big company, that might be through their own sales force, and for a smaller company it might be a small team which is operating the site themselves. They can sell those ads on a CPM, CPC, or CPA basis. I can imagine that there are lots of ad serving companies by now. That's pretty powerful for publishers.

Affiliate Network – Affiliates are third-parties which are only compensated when they perform a particular action on your behalf. As such, a number of marketplaces have arisen to address this issue, such as Commission Junction , Google Affiliate Network and LinkShare. Such fees must be factored into your cost per customer calculation.
