I've had several Startup CTO Consulting sessions recently where it became apparent that the Founder needed help with the business and product as much or more than the technology. Then we discussed how they could go about finding this startup business advisor. Do you have any suggestions for how to find a good mentor?

I’m super excited to announce that GRP Partners led the investment in Ethan Anderson’s new company MyTime (link has LA-based merchants but will give you a good feel for the product). BuildOnline (the company I founded) has just announcement plans to be more aggressive in growing in the US. Let me not bury the lede.

I spent an hour across two phone calls with him telling him why I believe MakeSpace will be a billion dollar company (which I do). I reviewed an email from Kara Nortman, the CEO of Moonfrye who is working on putting together venture debt. I then traded emails with two former senior tech professionals in LA. How did I get here?

Plus, he told us a little bit about how he's helping to build a mini cluster of technology companies in the Silverlake area. However Gmail is only private email conversations. Is the idea to have multiple projects as part of the company? We have some great mentors now. It's actually uncommon to have a female CTO.

We talked with Scott--who until recently, was a student at the University of Southern California--about how he created his company and how that investment from Branson pushed him to take his startup full time. After that weekend in Miami, he introduced us to his friend Jerry Murdock, who has invested in lots of tech companies.
