In what might be one of the more unusual perks for a Southern California high tech company, LRN , a developer of enterprise compliance and ethics software, has an unlimited, paid vacation policy. LRN--which is around the corner from UCLA--serves such customers as 3M, Dow, Johnson & Johnson, Loews, Pfizer and Siemens.

And investing in content companies won’t return money! You need to segment your audience and find a way to get your highest quality customers over to O&O (owned & operated) inventory where you can get higher CPMs, sell merchandise and capture more customer information. You can’t replace this stuff with Java.

So he left and focused on starting companies. What astounded me when I switched from being a big company executive to being an entrepreneur was the sheer amount of decisions I had to make on a daily basis. Should you build in Ruby, Java or.NET? Within a week he had me a deck with a strategy for a new company.

Developers were allowed to code in any language they were most comfortable with including Objective C, Java, Javascript, HTML, C #, Dot Net, and XNA. This in turn creates a supportive ecosystem for the entrepreneurial minds to create a company from vision to concept, if not that weekend, but in the near future.
