Torrance-based BQE said on Wednesday that it has received a "significant investment" from private equity investor Serent Capital. Serent Capital is a private equity investor that invests in technology and tech-enabled software companies. The company was founded by Shafat Qazi in 1995.

Torrance-based The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation announced on Tuesday that it has received $1.75M as a donation, to fund a multi-site, clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the compound psilocybin in individuals with severe psychological distress associated with a terminal medical illness.

Pixoto , a new startup focused on sharing and voting on photographic images which is headed by former Pictage founder Jason Kiefer, has just scored a seed funding worth $360,000, according to a regulatory filing by the firm this week. Based on the funding, it appears the company is working on a $500,000 seed funding round.

Torrance-based Active Storage a developer of RAID products for Apple computers, has raised a Series A funding round, the firm said Tuesday afternoon. The company--which was founded by former executives at Apple, Inc.--said said the funding was led by Intel Capital, and also included Mission Ventures and Valhalla Partners.
