Application performance can be directly mapped to hosting dollars, and for a start-up company in its infancy, hosting costs can be a pain point. Early on GumGum began to experiment with overlaying rich media ads through Flash with photos until technology progressed and they moved over to Javascript. What started as a tech company is gaining ground as a media company.

The answer was yes, and we also saw that we could begin to play at web scale, be hosted in the cloud, be scalable in an extensive way. We then actually went to the leader, Amazon, and we're in the web services group. Our roots are in Flash, and in fact the company came about as a project for Macromedia.
