Even when it was published on Netflix, I had no desire to see The Founder movie, as it was clear from the film’s preview that it was yet another, “businessperson gone bad” film. Measure What Matters – The McDonald brothers were dogmatic about tracking metrics. The Founder won’t be available on Netflix forever.

For example, we all remember when Blockbuster realized too late that Netflix was stealing customers by offering videos online rather than via DVDs, but even then they were unable to adapt their processes and their thinking. I see this happening in smaller ways often, where there is minimal focus on competition.
In top current companies, such as Google, Apple, and Netflix, cultural strategies that include greater employee freedom and fostering creativity are the norm. Establish metrics on the culture, as well as the product. These metrics need the same top management attention as customer retention and sales metrics. Start today.
The metrics were good but we wondered how much better they would be when we expanded our product. It is Blockbuster video in the dawn of Netflix. Competition.
