On Thursday, the City of Ventura is formally launching a new incubator, the Ventura Ventures Technology Center (www.v2tc.com), targeted at high tech businesses. The incubator so far includes startups Lottay , Geodelic , and a number of other Internet and other technology firms. What led the City of Ventura to start an incubator?

Recently I wrote a post arguing to make the definition of a Startup more inclusive than that to which Silicon Valley, fueled by Venture Capital return profiles, would sometimes like to attach to the word. Most of what I think about startup communities came from mentorship by Brad Feld through hours of private discussion and debate.

Goleta-based Transphorm , the stealthy, Google and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers startup in the energy conversion space, has unveiled its first product today at a conference. The firm said it has created a power diode, based on Gallium Nitride technology, which provides over 99 percent efficiency for DC-to-DC converters.
