I've recently received several emails from people looking for a technical cofounder for their startup. Here's an example of that kind of email. Sites - There are a bunch of sites out there aimed at this or similar issues. I promised I would write this post with some thoughts and ideas on the topic.

My co-founder is Nasi Peretz, who is CTO of West Side Rentals, another LA company, and who also ran properties at USC for the business school and law school. He had the technology background, who I had initially hired and who I brought on as my co-founder, and who runs the technical side of the team. Are venues finding this useful?

As a hiring manager, and as the former CTO of Buy.com, Navid Nobakht , Co-Founder of Recmnd.Me ([link] had a problem--how to really figure out if someone he was hiring could actually execute. The problem we're trying to solve, is one I found from in my experience as a hiring manager in the IT industry.

Because I am true to the hiring practices I preach, I wanted a strong exec who would “ punch above their weightclass ” by taking a job they hadn’t yet done but would hugely aspire to and thus work harder to out perform. I told him that this had been a big theme for me for some time. So there you have it.

On Friday, at the LA CTO Forum , I heard from a couple of CTOs having trouble finding good developers. In between, I got an email from CJ Cenizal asking about this exact issue: I'm growing a social gaming startup, Elevated Games ( elevatedgames.com ) as Founder and CEO. I don’t have specific suggestions for people you can hire.
