I expect that should seem intuitive to all entrepreneurs, but every investor I know has many stories about startup funding requests with major business model elements missing. Common choices include manufacturing in-house, outsourcing, off-the-shelf parts. Investors look for a sustainable competitive advantage, like a patent.

There are complex processes, like filing a patent, and financial tools that may be new to you, including Excel and Quickbooks. Don’t forget the wealth of “gig” experts for outsourcing at a low cost. I can remember several pitches where the entrepreneur looked and acted out of balance, thus terminating their funding opportunity.
