XPRIZE To Award $1M Bonus Prize For Ocean Discovery Contest

Marina Del Rey-based XPRIZE , the group which runs challenges to help advance the development of technology, will award a $1M bonus prize this month in Monaco for the Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE , according to the nonprofit. According to XPRIZE, it asked teams to design new technology with the ability to detect chemicals in the open ocean and trace them to their source, with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) offering a $1 million prize for the most successful team.

Qualcomm, Lenovo Launch Snapdragon Powered PC

San Diego-based Qualcomm , and PC maker Lenovo have rolled out the first PC powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors, the two said over the weekend. Qualcomm and Lenovo said they have rolled out a new "5G PC" which uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8cx 5G compute platform, Qualcomm's new Snapdragon chip specifically aimed at being used to power PCs. The new laptop, lauched at Computex Taipei 2019, integrates 5G connectivity into the laptop, using Qualcomm's X55 5G modem and Qualcomm's RF front end.

Report: Elon Musk Highest Paid CEO In California

Elon Musk , the technology mogul behind such Los Angeles technology firms as SpaceX and Boring Company , is officially the highest paid CEO in California, according to a report issued late last week. The report--which only considered Musk's pay as head of Tesla Motors--said Musk was paid $2.28 billion, which included salary, bonus, stock awards, stock option awards, deferred compensation and other benefits. The data came from the Associated Press and Equilar, an executive data firm.

Cibus Pulls IPO Paperwork

San Diego-based Cibus , a developer of gene editing tools being aimed at use in plant breeding, has pulled its IPO paperwork, saying in a filing that it has decided "not to proceed with the initial public offering of its securities at this time." Cibus had set an estimated initial pricing range of $14.00 to $16.00 in February, looking to sell around 6.67 million shares of its common stock, but delayed its IPO without pricing.
