Minkonet Raises $1M, Sets Up Headquarters In Los Angeles

Minkonet , a South Korean startup which is developing 3D video game capture technology, said this morning that it has raised $1M in a "Pre-Series A" investment round, and has set up a brand new headquarters in Los Angeles. The funding came from Evergreen Investment Partners, along with existing investors Bluepoint Partners and Kite Foundation. According to Minkonet, the funding specifically goes towards its operations in Los Angeles, and expansion into North America.

XPRIZE , the Los Angeles nonprofit which promotes development of new technology to help solve world problems, has whittled down the number of teams competing in the IBM Watson AI XPRIZE , focused on using AI to world's greatest challenges. According to XPRIZE, it now has 59 teams across 14 countries competing for the $5M prize, with the top ten teams being named this week at the annual conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS) in Long Beach.

Los Angeles-based CrossCut Ventures , the venture firm run by Rick Smith, Brian Garrett, Brett Brewer, and Clinton Foy, is announcing this morning that it has raised a big new fund-- CrossCut 4 --worth $125M.
