PPC is sometimes called “buying your way into search results.” Cost per action (CPA).

We give users something they don't get anywhere else, for something they do every day--searching the web.

For sites displaying the ads, this is called pay per click (PPC). For most, it sounds like a magical process or a scam, with the experts spewing so many acronyms.
