Los Angeles-based TaskUs , which provides outsourced customer support and other back-end support for technology companies, said today that it has named Jarrod Johnson as Chief Customer Officer. Johnson also had served at ACS and IBM. Johnson was previously SVP of Sales at TaskUs, and will be based in the company's Dallas offices.

Johnson was most recently SVP of Sales, Marketing, and Client Development at FacilitySource, and also had served at IBM and Xerox. Johnson will be based in Dallas.

There were the existing large consulting firms like IBM, CSC, Cap Gemini, PwC and Deloitte Consulting as well as the upstarts like Scient, Viant, Razorfish, Diamond Consulting and a host of others. During the down market they were able to double down on recruiting, sales, outsourcing, new market entries and marketing (yes, with Tiger ads ).

My family had the very first edition of the IBM XT computer with a 10 MB hard drive. I don’t believe you can hire great business people who outsource the development to a hot incubator who builds you code to match your ambitions. Not hard-core, just the stuff you’d do if you were in jr.

Process outsourcing services. Hence the popularity and wealth of new services like Citi Bike, Lyft, and NetFlix.

My friends who “grew up” with lifetime careers in General Motors, Exxon Mobil, or even IBM, are now often too embarrassed to even mention it. Outsourcing and manufacturing “offshore” have become the norm. They have proven themselves unable to innovate, and they have lost more jobs than they create.

Talent can also be outsourced, but surviving in the business jungle without talent is unlikely.
