A few people have asked me to try and define the perfect startup organization chart. If you don’t have somebody inside your organization who is setting the technology direction then I’m convinced you’ll never head for greatness. However, it is one of the more critical roles as you scale your organization.

Opportunities to meet investors and support organizations. Makerspaces are becoming the new incubators and accelerators for startups, and support contacts, including lawyers and marketing groups, will be easy to find. Countless startup teams have already been spawned from these.

I don’t believe you can hire great business people who outsource the development to a hot incubator who builds you code to match your ambitions. Sales is the lifeblood of every organization. And I feel that this skill is invaluable in both building a start-up company and in being a VC. It’s how we move products.
