Sweety High , a new startup based in Manhattan Beach, is hoping to reach tween girls with its new social gaming and entertainment site, saying this week that it has launched out of private beta. The site says it is hoping to create a social game platform to allow girls between 8 and 16 to "express themselves fearlessly".

Damarillo is a repeat entrepreneur, who has a number of successes in the open source software market; he's probably best known for starting and building GlueCode software, and selling it to IBM.

Manhattan Beach-based Pod Network , which says it is developing a mobile, social media network which connects users based on their physical location, plus professional and personal interests, has raised $5M in a seed funding. The company said the round was led by PACA Ventures and Anthony Misitano, founder of Post Acute Medical.

Earlier this week, Manhattan Beach-based PeerStreet (www.peerstreet.com) announced the launch of its online lending marketplace for real estate, plus a $6.1M Brett and I both grew up in Southern California. I grew up in Thousand Oaks, went to USC, and we met each other way back in the 90's. in a funding round.
