Los Angeles-based mobile ticketing firm Atom Tickets said this morning that it is teaming up with Paramount Pictures and Participant Media, to offer up its users a chance to see the new Al Gore film, "An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth To Power", at special public screenings.
If you look at the industry, it's a roughly $100 billion industry, with about 80 percent of the revenue coming from the big six studios, Warner, Paramount, Disney, 20th Century Fox, and so on. I was selling products to Live Nation, Demand Media, Kelly Blue Book, Rovi, and the Screen Actors Guild. We're targeting just below the big six.
YouTube has a player which works in Google hangouts, so they can instantly screen your work or your pitch, and you can get instant feedback that way. I worked on packaging independent projects, and helped send Paranormal Activity to Paramount. Those teachers are what set us apart. They've worked in this industry at a very high level.
We were able to present at the screenings in Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego, and met lots of very interesting people who asked lots of great questions. They were very helpful in the process, and we found out pretty quickly doing the rounds of screenings that there was tremendous interest in the group.
Paramount Digital’s Tom Lesinski explains, “The way large films are marketed no longer makes sense.” Indie movies are promoted by building them up around a virtual distributed version of a screening event through social media. The amount of groundbreaking, industry-shaking technology there is now is quite more than amazing.
I highly recommend that you screen your business plan and your executive presentation carefully for variations on any of these themes, and remove them. So interacting with you in person is paramount. It’s your job to find a continued way to stay on the radar screen of the VC. If you’re not you’re going to have to put in some miles and some time away from home. Raising money is a “direct sale” not a telephone sale. They are buying YOU.
