Los Angeles-based Aggregage (www.aggregage.com) is looking to help aggregate the content across multiple blog publishing sites, and curate that information into specific, B2B niche vertical web sites. At that time, monetizing by advertising didn't exist, and web developers were having to hand roll those experiences.

One of the great joys of doing the web series This Week in VC every week is that I get to spend time with great people debating the issues of our day including how our industry is evolving as well as insights into how companies got started, got their initial traction and dealt with adversities. We're the only site that is specialized in people over the age of 35 in that area. How did you end up starting the site? Elizabeth Amini: I actually ran into him in 2005, when he was a keynote speaker at a conference. Out of over every ten people who see the site, one or two are really gravitate or are attached to it.

Los Angeles-based Crosscut Ventures (www.crosscutventures.com) is one of the newest venture capital funds in the area, and has quietly been working on funding local companies over the last year. It's all that stuff that allows publishers and advertisers to better understand their user base and how to effectively monetize it.
