There were startups and a software industry but barely. Between 2006–2008 I sold both companies that I had started and became a VC. SEEING THINGS FROM THE VC SIDE OF THE TABLE While I was a VC in 2007 & 2008 those were dead years because the market again evaporated due the the Global Financial Crisis (GFC).

However, if history is any lesson, downturns actually have created some of Southern California's most successful technology companies, whether through forcing those companies to swizzle their business models, by removing competition from the market, or even spurring customers to more readily adopt their products to save money.

I was recruited for the role when we were still at AT&T Interactive in October of 2008, by some of my former coworkers at Yahoo, who had already landed here. Yelp and Agie''s List has been fantastic in the reviews path. But, going down that review path was not where we wanted to take it, or at least, not where we wanted to start.
