Njoku in April this year closed an $8m funding investment round from Tiger Global and another $2m from a Swedish firm, Kinnevik and still he says more is yet to come. However, I can tell you that until recently, our business model was based purely on advertising and yes, it was profitable. iROKO Partners was launched in December 2010.

What would it take in investments to acquire and retain traffic to support these businesses? After a year in the market, MakeSpace was growing rapidly and our biggest issue was CAC (customer acquisition costs) relative to payback period (when we get our marketing investment back) and relative to LTV (lifetime value). Efficiency?

Once this new service became popular then the media companies could control the rules of distribution & advertising. When I recently wrote about how excited I was about investing in “ The Digital Living Room ,&# Hulu was only mentioned in the context of how Clicker.com was a much better metaphor for content discovery and search.
