I recently had the pleasure of spending an hour with Jon Steinberg, president of Buzzfeed , a company who focuses on helping media companies make their content go viral. That’s why people turn up to Buzzfeed. Good comment community = viral blog. The more engaging, the more it gets shared. How very meta of me, hey?
It an era of social media and newsreaders titles matter a lot. When I first started writing this blog several years ago I had less followers than you have right now. But the realist in me knew I couldn’t write daily nor could I convince you to think to check out my blog with regularity. I should know. And so it should be.
And as Jon Steinberg of Buzzfeed points out, the CTRs for social media banner ads are just 0.08%. We believe that the structural industry changes will continue to create big opportunities for technology firms that enable the changes in media consumption for television, radio, inbound calls, online & social media.

A host of bloggers and publishers are seeing their revenues massively dented, from tiny BBQ grill review sites to the hugest media organizations around. Top Publications: BuzzFeed News, Vox, New York Magazine. Since April 21, Amazon has slashed its rates across a wide range of product categories, in some cases dropping as much as 70%.
Usually I tell them to study Upworthy & Buzzfeed. This is simply no different than curating on Pinterest, Tweeting interesting stories, editing on Wikipedia or blogging. They want to be media companies that use the Internet rather than tech companies that distribute video. Here is an example. Always ask for the order.
And if you’re paying attention, you’ll understand that this is their third push for native media consumption: first photos, then videos, and now written content.
