Of course, the first requirement is to get the education and tools you need to feel confident that you are ready, and have the mindset to be a leader in every role. I find that even very smart and successful business leaders, like Bill Gates , still seek and use a mentor they can learn from, such as Warren Buffett.

The wisest mentor I ever had was Ameet Shah , my partner on several projects. He coached me that I had to start with the answers. To give you an example it might go something like this, here is a made up situation that a portfolio company might face: - we currently sell through channels. - How can I START with the answers?

Thiel and friends will also agree to mentor these young entrepreneurs. We need to take some risks in education and in innovation in this country so anybody that it trying to break through the traditional mold and try to create a new model ought to be lauded, not attacked.
