Both are highly desired places to stand, speak or skate. But the best way to get to either is to focus on what will get you there, not on getting there. As parents, isn’t it our responsibility to nurture them and help them achieve? It reminds of the Mark Zuckerberg Facebook story. I believe it is.

I was recently approached by Fast Company to comment on “crisis management&# at startups in the wake of the Airbnb “ranksackgate&# story. I agreed to do the interview because the story was about what other companies can learn rather than about airbnb in particular. Attacking back makes you both look petty.

And so it goes with social networking. AOL was controlled by one company and the Internet was distributed. AOL controlled the services, taxed companies to access users and decided what was good or bad. If you were a newly minted, venture-backed consumer Internet company you had to have a deal with AOL to reach your customers.
