What would convince you to drop everything, get on a plane, and move your startup to Los Angeles? According to Silicon Prairie News, the founders of DivShot, Michael Bligh and Jake Johnson, jumped at the chance to become part of the Los Angeles technology community after winning first place at the Crowdstart LA pitch competition in July.

Welcome to the accelerated version of Startup Weekend. I dropped in to check out the contest a few times during the competition and the environment was uplifting and exciting. Brought back fond memories of my weekend at Startup Weekend. Some used Java, Ruby, jQuery while others used PHP, HTML, and CSS. Teams: CoderTie.

How did the company start? So, we started to learn some basic HTML and ActionScript, and put together a prototype, which helped us raise our first round of angel funding. We are young women ourselves, obviously, so its a competitive advantage to do what we know best, especially when theres not many of us in the industry.

An Android and HTML 5 version will follow in June. Allon says the idea started with another Co-Founder, Daniel Ivesha. “He She ended up at one of the gaming booths and didn’t even know that her family was looking for her. . ’Why don’t we use this technology to create something not as intrusive as a leash?’”.

We will be releasing actual mobile apps down the road, but right now we have device-friendly HTML 5 web applications. But the end result was incredibly valuable, so looked at that end result and we were able to optimize our campaigns and be more efficient than our competition. What do you think about LA as a startup area?

Up for grabs for first place at this hack was $10k. The competition was fierce and the winner was…… Airping! It took place at the swanky TechZulu Trend lounge that was overlooking Downtown Austin from 18 floors up at the top of the Garden Hilton. Technologies used: SQL Server, C#, IIS, HTML, and CSS. Trinidad!).

The Internet and World Wide Web themselves emerged from open protocols (HTTP, HTML, SMTP, etc) that allowed businesses, individuals and governments to put information online that was accessible to the masses and then to build applications on top of this infrastructure to the benefit of the masses.
