A local entrepreneur, Mike Khristo, is launching a new, Y-Combinator style incubation and acceleration effort, LaunchSpark , after becoming frustrated by the lack of a similar incubation effort in SoCal. Khristo complains that there has been a lack of a Y Combinator style program in Southern California.

For those who may not know of DEMO , it is a jammed packed twice a year 2 day conference filled with 6 minute on stage pitches, a demo pit, networking events, and not to mention one of the longest running emerging tech conferences. They are gearing up for DEMO Fall 2010 which is happening Sept. 13-15 in Silicon Valley.

Over the last few years, there''s been an explosion in startup accelerators in Southern California, and in particular along "Silicon Beach" on the Los Angeles westside. We just had the demo day for our third batch of companies. It''s not a three month program, demo day, and folks move out or move on.

Last week, a group of four angel investors here announced their plans to create a new, accelerator program to spur the creation of an entrepreneurial community in the area around new startups.
