Eighteen months ago, when MAKE IT IN LA's launch from Mayor's Garcetti's office was featured in a White House press release, we announced an audacious goal of reaching 1,000 entrepreneurs with our programming by the end of this year. Last month, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti created a new program, aimed at growing, assisting and sustaining entrepreneurs in Los Angeles. The new "Entrepreneur-in-Residence" program has appointed its first, two, EIRs--Krisztina "Z" Holly and Amir Tehrani.--both Los Angeles is poised to play a huge role in that area.

At the Technovation Challenge LA Pitch Night hosted by Iridescent , we saw six teams of high school girls from various Los Angeles City Schools pitch a number of mobile app ideas to a panel of venture capitalists and entrepreneurs. The winners, Techno Unibot Freaks, with In a Flash received a prize courtesy of EA entertainment.

We''re showing people that we have the cool media-entertainment stuff, which is cool and great, and we love that. While we happen to be located here, we have panels throughout today and tomorrow, talking about where in LA should I build my startup -- we have people from Hollywood, Pasadena, USC, talking about those neighborhoods.

We came together with the idea of designing something that specifically addresses the skills and opportunity gap in our country. Deborah Ramo: It's interesting, but my background is actually in the entertainment world. Eventually, the idea was that the entertainment industry's workforce would reflect our audience.
